How big is Church of the Highlands?

Our church, founded in 1983, has grown into a healthy and vibrant congregation. We currently have around 200 active members and regular attendees.

What time is your sunday worship service

We have one service offered each Sunday morning, held in the sanctuary and offices building. Our service begins at 10:00 a.m. Our Kidztown Building check-in begins at 9:45 a.m. for ages nursery to 5th grade. Children in 6th grade and up join their parents in our family service. We offer a casual-attire service, featuring familiar praise songs and hymns with a full band accompaniment.  Month that have a 5th Sunday, our children in Kidztown that are 4 years old and up join their families in the service.

What do you offer for Children on Sunday morning?

Children are a special part of our congregation, and we value them as full participants in the life of our church.

Kidztown (4yr-5th grade) children are welcome to join us in the Kidztown Building during the 10:00 a.m. service.

Check-in starts at 9:45 a.m at the Kidztown kiosk, located at the entrance doors.

Currently we are learning a chronological study of the Bible through The Gospel Project.

The format of our children’s program includes Big Group Time (in The Park/Multipurpose Room) and 3 centers (The Gym, The Studio, and The Academy) that children rotate through.  Big Group Time provides time for “corporate worship” through songs, giving, Bible verse review, our Missions focus, and prayer.  The Academy teaches the Bible lesson for the week at an appropriate level for each age group. The Gym provides opportunities to interact with our lessons through physical activities.  The Studio reinforces our teaching through hands-on craft projects.   Children receive a small snack, usually corresponding to the lesson, during their Gym time .

What do you offer for babies and toddlers

Nursery care is provided for both infants and toddlers (up to age 3) from 9:45 a.m. until the conclusion of the service each week. The Nursery is located in the Kidztown building and has a separate entrance and check-in on the Highland Rd. side of the building. Our nursery has several cribs, infant and toddler toys and is staffed by a trained and highly skilled caregiver plus vetted volunteers. We also have a Cry Room for nursing mothers in this area with rocking chairs and a video stream of the service.

Who goes to your church?

We have quite a mixture of people at COH. Our congregation truly spans the ages, from newborns to those in their 70s. You’ll find just about every type of person here – married, single, divorced, widowed – students, professionals, retired – life-long Baton Rouge residents and those who have just recently moved to the Red Stick area. But even more important than the type of people who go here is the kind of people who are welcome here – and that's EVERYONE!
